Byrne’s belief is that utilizing VDC tools will improve both the communication of all project team members as well as the efficiency of construction. VDC combines 3D models and information from various disciplines such as structural, mechanical, electrical, and architectural to give a comprehensive 3D model of the building. VDC’s value lies in the proactive and open process it fosters which enables the project team to locate and resolve conflicts in the design stages before the materials ever reach the job site.

Additionally, the use of VDC drastically reduces the costs associated with printing sets of plans to reflect changes. Byrne ties the construction schedule to the model to virtually build the building in sequence and help to better identify sequencing and coordinate onsite material storage.
