The Rachofsky House
Contemporary 10,000 sf three-story former private residence converted to a modern art museum and social entertainment venue. This residence was built to museum-quality standards utilizing commercial subcontractors and materials. The building’s foundation consists of a drilled pier/basement foundation, a steel structural framing system with the exterior façade consisting of an architectural metal panel system and a curtainwall glazing system. The house also includes a built-up roof system, a chilled water HVAC system housed in the basement, an elevator, as well as a swimming pool. The house is a clean geometric volume wedded to its surroundings by views from the inside. What is new is the attenuated physical separation of the house from the earth, effected here by a black granite podium extending from the apex of the sloped driveway to a sculpted pool terrace on the house’s rear face. The house is a clean geometric volume wedded to its surroundings by views from the inside. Interior finish materials include carpet, stone, and tile flooring, custom millwork cabinetry at the kitchen and bathrooms. Superflat wall finishes are paint and include a plywood substructure in order to accommodate heavy modern artwork.
