Lila Cockrell Theatre

The Lila Cockrell Theatre is a complete renovation of a 1968 structure. The building consists of a 2,300 seat auditorium with multiple elevated balconies, a basement with rehearsal halls, green rooms and meeting space all totaling 108,000 SF. This 1968 renovation will include a large asbestos abatement package, a complete Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing demo and reinstallation, ADA and code upgrades and a general face lift of all finishes. The MEP upgrades will include providing an addition to house new air handling units that will cool the stage and reconfiguration of all other mechanical rooms to provide a more efficient system to the auditorium itself. There are also several ADA and code compliance issue including complete elevator modernization, handrail compliance and an addition to provide ADA access to both front row seating and the stage, which currently does not exist. The basement level of the theatre that is adjacent to the San Antonio Riverwalk will be remodeled to include meeting rooms and pre-function space that will spill out onto the San Antonio River to create a venue for business meetings, weddings and banquets. The finishes in the remodeled space will emulate the San Antonio River and while capturing the use of local materials such as limestone veneers throughout the lobby areas. This state of the Art renovation will bring the Lila Cockrell Theatre up to the level of the surrounding newly renovated Convention Center.
